Public History Minor

Apply history to the real-world with our Public History minor.

You’ll learn to share historical knowledge with the general public through various mediums, from material culture to digital history. Students in our program will come away with solid communication, technical and critical thinking skills in a fast-growing field.

To earn a minor in Public History, students must complete the 20 credit sequence of courses below, with a 2.00 average in minor courses and no individual grade lower than C-.

  • HIST 500 - Historical Methods (offered each fall)
  • HIST 595 - Issues in Public History (offered each spring)
  • Two 500/600-level public history courses*
  • HIST 691 - Internship

* 500/600-level public history electives could include Museum Studies, Studies in Regional Material Culture, Oral History, Digital Humanities, Historical GIS, and Archives.
