Profile

Mr. William F. (Bill) Troy is a lecturer in business at the University of New Hampshire’s urban campus in Manchester. Mr. Troy’s primary areas of course development and teaching at UNHM include marketing, marketing communications, e-commerce, services marketing, selling/ sales management, senior seminar, and economics. He also is the supervisor of the Minor in Business program, and manages the Business program aspects of the UNHM internship program. Mr. Troy is also an Adjunct Management instructor at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he teaches international business and economics and consults with companies on improving their marketing and sales integration.

Prior to academia, Mr. Troy had an extensive career in high technology marketing, including Director of Marketing roles at L.M. Ericsson, Compaq, and DIGITAL Equipment. Mr. Troy focused on bringing business strategy and quantitative sciences to their practical application in building consumer awareness and interest in his companies’ products and services. He has managed a host of communications programs in this work: television/radio/web/print advertising, web sites/programs, direct marketing, collateral materials, and trade shows/ conferences, including managing employees from diverse cultures across 20 time zones. His marketing campaigns have not only dramatically improved company reputations, but have also won recognition in the Marketing community with awards including the Clio, Business Marketing Icon, and Business Week campaign trophies. Mr. Troy’s multi-faceted career has also included sales/marketing management consultant, healthcare marketing analyst, channels of distribution marketing manager, and economist for the U.S. Labor Department, where he forecasted industry and employment growth during a time of significant structural change in the New England economy.

Mr. Troy is a Boston native and graduated from the Boston Latin School. He received his B.A. in Economics from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, awarded with Magna Cum Laude, Commonwealth Scholar, and Phi Beta Kappa honors. While at UMASS, he was a leader in student government, and competed in intercollegiate debate. He also holds an MBA from the Johnson School of Management at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. At both universities, Mr. Troy was an active supporter of local entrepreneurs in building their market presence.

Mr. Troy lives in West Acton, Massachusetts with his wife Karen (whom he met at UMASS), and his son Kevin. He is active in a host of town activities, including coaching youth lacrosse and football, and school volunteer teaching. Mr. Troy is a strong public education supporter, and is a founding member, and chairperson, of the UMASS Economics Department Alumni Board, which provides ongoing financial, mentoring, career counseling, and teaching support for undergraduate students. He also serves on the board of the Acton-Boxborough Youth Lacrosse program.
