As a public university with numerous points of entry to both the Durham and Manchester campuses, it is impossible to provide absolute protection, but the University does pay careful attention to safety and security. On the UNH Manchester campus, UNH Security officers are graduates of the New Hampshire Campus Public Safety Academy and work directly with the Manchester Police Department. Both UNH Security and Manchester Police have protocols to handle campus crises.
Campus security officers are on duty during campus business hours. They provide authorized access to University buildings after hours, secure campus buildings and parking lots. Campus security issues college ID's, coordinates campus parking and issues parking passes.
Although, UNH Campus Security Officers do not have police authority, they work closely with Manchester Police and are have direct communication to Manchester Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Units and the UNH Police on the Durham Campus. Officers attend the mandatory New Hampshire College and University Campus Security Academy and various in-service training throughout the year.
Campus Security also coordinates the WalkSafe Service. This service is a walking escort service provided free of charge to members and visitors of the University community. For more information on the escort program and on campus safety tips, contact Security Supervisor Gary Sears at 603-641-4101 or email at email@example.com
