The Secondary Education program at UNH Manchester provides certification and an M.A.T. degree for those who wish to teach in secondary schools. The focus of the Teacher Education program is to prepare teacher-leaders. These are teachers who are not only excellent practitioners but teachers who work toward improving education in and beyond their own classrooms.
UNH Teacher Education students have numerous opportunities to complete practica, projects, and internships in diverse urban classrooms and schools. Issues related to the challenges and rewards of serving in diverse schools are woven into the teacher preparation courses.
Students also have numerous opportunities to participate in and contribute to the professional knowledge base through public conference presentations, organizing community panels, and/or organizing after school professional development sessions for colleagues at public schools.
What is the difference between an M.Ed. and the M.A.T in Secondary Education? The M.A.T. requires that at least three graduate-level courses be in an area of subject matter concentration rather than in education.
