Wildcats in the World: Sinehan Kerman ’14, ‘18G at J2 Interactive

For Sinehan Kerman ’14, ‘18G, the relationship with UNH Manchester is a full-circle one. Kerman came to UNH Manchester as a business student, graduated as an employee and returned in 2018 as an adjunct instructor—in addition to her full-time role as digital marketing manager at J2 Interactive.

Kerman came to UNH Manchester after graduating from Pinkerton Academy, enrolling in the college’s business program. She became instantly involved—welcoming students to campus as an Orientation Leader, talking to prospective students as a Student Ambassador, engaging students in campus life as a Student Activities Promoter. But the experience that set it all apart, she says, was being part of the college’s Enactus team.

“I don’t think I’d be where I am today without the entrepreneurship and consulting experience I got through Enactus,” Kerman said. “It enabled me to learn about many different types of organizations and ways to perform market analysis and business planning, which has without a doubt progressed my career.”

Enactus is an international organization that provides students with the skills to become socially responsible business leaders through local projects and community engagement. Kerman served as president of UNH Manchester’s team, leading them to a national title at the Enactus Convention in 2014.

After graduating with her business degree, Kerman worked at UNH Manchester as assistant director of admissions for three years. While working towards her MBA at UNH, she accepted a position as digital marketing manager at the healthcare IT firm J2 Interactive.

Kerman’s time at UNH Manchester hasn’t come to an end yet—she currently teaches business and marketing courses as an adjunct instructor and serves as an assistant advisor to the college’s Enactus team. We caught up with her to see what she’s been up to since earning her B.A. in Business in 2014 and MBA in 2018.

What were you doing...

  • 1 year out of college?
Working as an admissions counselor/liaison to marketing for UNH Manchester’s undergraduate admissions.
  • 5 years out of college?
Working as the Digital Marketing Manager for J2 Interactive, a healthcare IT firm that specializes in implementation/customization/integration with Intersystems Corp and Salesforce products.

What are you doing now?

As Digital Marketing Manager for J2 Interactive, I manage the company’s website/SEO, lead nurturing and customer engagement email campaigns, social media and branding. I’m also a certified Salesforce Administrator and occasionally lead client projects for Salesforce Pardot implementations.

I’m also an adjunct instructor in the business program at UNH Manchester. I’ve taught Marketing Demand Applications and Intro to Business, and I’m the Enactus Assistant Advisor under Kelly Kilcrease.

What was the most rewarding part of your UNH Manchester experience?

Being a part of the Enactus team – I don’t think I’d be where I am without that entrepreneurship and consulting experience. Beyond that, I also think the Business Capstone made a big impact on launching me into my career path. It’s incredibly challenging and pushes students outside their comfort zone to really embrace the opportunities that lie beyond graduation.

How do you feel your time at UNH has had an impact on where you are today?

UNH Manchester really is a “hidden gem” of higher education. It wasn’t a completely traditional experience when I attended, and I really wouldn’t have had it any other way. I got to take classes with students of all ages and from very diverse walks of life, which allowed for a more productive learning environment and experiences I wouldn’t have had at any other university. Additionally, I saved a lot by commuting from home, and while I do have some student loans, they are minimal and manageable.

If you could give one bit of advice to incoming UNH Manchester students, what would it be?

UNH Manchester is going to push you outside of your comfort zone – lean into it. You’ll be able to learn not only from your professors in class, but from your peers around you both in and out of the classroom. Get involved, speak up and try new things.

Any other thoughts you’d like to share?

Just a reiteration of my love for UNH Manchester and how grateful I am to still be a part of the community today!
