Schedule an Advising Appointment

Every student is assigned an advisor. Declared students are assigned to a faculty advisor from their specific program, while undeclared and associate degree students are assigned to a professional advisor.

All students are encouraged to meet with their assigned advisor a minimum of one time each semester. It is important to discuss any and all changes to your course schedule or academic plans with your assigned advisor.

To find your advisor:

  • Go to my.unh.edu and log in

  • Select Webcat

  • Select Student Records

  • Select View Major and Advisor

  • Select Current Term

You can find your advisor’s contact information by searching your advisor’s name in the UNH Manchester faculty/staff directory

Newly admitted first year and transfer students will meet with professional advisors at First Year Orientation or Transfer Advising Day. During this mandatory event, you will meet your advisor, learn about your degree requirements, review transfer credits, and register for courses. To learn more about this event and register, please visit the Accepted Students page.

New students will not be able to register for classes until they attend First Year Orientation or Transfer Advising Day session. Students who do not attend this event will be contacted in August regarding advising and registration for fall courses.

Professional Advisors work with undeclared and associate degree students but are an excellent resource for all students. Professional Advisors:

  • Make academic plans
  • Help students with time and stress management
  • Support students in goal setting and prioritization
  • Provide study away advising
  • Create graduation plans during junior year
  • Meet with excluded/probation students and those who receive academic alerts
  • Explain the petition for variance in policy process

Faculty Advisors work with students who are declared in their specific degree program. Because faculty are experts in their field, they are a great resource for building your professional network. Faculty Advisors:

  • Guide students through the major
  • Develop and approve areas of focus within the major
  • Approve academic internships
  • Advise students on course selection once a semester

Contact Academic Advising if you:

  • Receive an Academic Alert
  • Receive a letter that you have been excluded
  • Want help outlining an academic plan and reviewing your completed and outstanding degree requirements
  • Want to add or drop a course after the semester has begun
  • Want to change majors
  • Want to create a senior year plan, which should be created in your junior year
  • Want to discuss time/stress management. Academic advisors can review syllabi, create a weekly time management schedule and discuss ways to manage stress.
  • Would like to study away—just be sure to create your VIA account and explore study away programs before your advising appointment.

Contact your Faculty Advisor if you want to:

  • Select courses and/or receive your Registration Access Code (RAC), if you’ve declared a major
  • Discuss major options, concentrations or specific areas of study

All students are welcome to meet with Academic Advising. However, all students who have an assigned faculty advisor are strongly encouraged to meet with them during the course selection process and registration period.
