Each spring the UNH Manchester community celebrates the outstanding academic achievements of our undergraduate students at the Honors Convocation ceremony. Convocation is the second largest academic ceremony at the University, next to Commencement, and a time for students and their families to join with University administration, faculty, staff, and their peers to celebrate their academic success.

The program includes recognition of student achievement including Presidential and University Scholars, Writing across the Curriculum Awards, Academic Program Awards, an Emerging Writer Award, Undergraduate Research Conference Awards, and presentation of the Lewis Knight Scholarship.

University Scholars and Presidential Scholars must be currently enrolled and matriculated.

They must also meet the following criteria:

University Scholars Baccalaureate Degree Candidates
  • Must have earned 100 or more credits by March 16, 2016, of which at least 64 are UNH graded credits. (These 64 credits may include credits for which the student is currently enrolled.)
  • A 3.5 – 3.84 cumulative UNH GPA
University Scholars Associate Degree Candidates
  • Must have earned 32 or more credits by March 16, 2016, of which at least 12 are UNH graded credits. (These 12 credits may include credits for which the student is currently enrolled.)
  • A 3.5 – 4.0 cumulative UNH GPA
Presidential Scholars
  • Must have earned 100 or more credits by March 16, 2016, of which at least 64 are graded UNH credits. (These 64 credits may include credits for which the student is currently enrolled.)
  • A 3.85 – 4.0 cumulative UNH GPA

Honors Convocation is a public event and professional photographer will be taking photos during the ceremony. The photographer will also be available after the ceremony for formal photos of our students, their guests, faculty, and staff members.

The photographs that will be taken will be available for download on the college's Flickr gallery approximately two weeks after the event.

What is convocation?

Convocation is a large formal assembly, from the Latin convocare, "to call together". Honors Convocation refers to the formal ceremony held annually when faculty and staff "come together" to recognize and celebrate the academic achievement of our undergraduate students.

Why should I attend Honors Convocation?

You have worked hard to earn your honor or award, so you should receive public recognition for your hard work. Additionally, your family may like to share your honor. Parents, partners and spouses are proud of your success. If you are a parent yourself, you can have your children share your honor and be proud of you. Remember, your family may have made sacrifices to support you, so they might like to share in your success.

What happens at Honors Convocation?

During Honors Convocation students' names are called for recognition as University Scholars, Presidential Scholars and for academic program and other college awards and honors. Individual student names will be announced and you will be asked to come up to the platform to receive your honor or award from the Provost of the University, the college Dean and the college Associate Dean.

Why do I have to let you know if I will be attending?

We have to make sure we have enough seats for you and your guests.

The invitation says attire is business casual. What does that mean?

Women are advised to wear a nice dress, pantsuit, or slacks and blouse. Men are advised to wear good slacks and shirts. Ties are optional.

Is the event accessible for students or guests with disabilities?

The venue is accessible. ASL interpretation is provided. Individuals requiring ADA accommodations should contact Jenessa Zurek at 641-4383 orJenessa.Zurek@unh.edu at least two weeks in advance of the ceremony.

The ceremony takes place during the dinner hour. Will food be served?

Yes, light hors d’oeuvres will be available. You are welcome to come a half hour early to enjoy some refreshments and mingle with your classmates. There are also many restaurants along South Willow Street should you decide to make a reservation for dinner following the event.

How long is the Honors Convocation ceremony?

We start promptly at 6:00pm and the ceremony should take between 75 and 90 minutes.
