Alisbet Veras ’23, a graduating senior in UNH Manchester’s business program, will deliver the student address at the college’s 2023 commencement ceremony on Friday, May 19.

Alisbet has embraced learning throughout her college career. Graduating with honors, the accounting major exemplifies the success that academic rigor and enthusiasm can bring.

Alisbet’s fascination with numbers began when she was a child. She loved how numbers could be used to find answers in both simple and complex ways, and her interest only grew the more she learned and grew herself.

“I have loved numbers since I was a kid, and accounting was an obvious fit,” she says. “I found it quite interesting to find answers and manage with numbers.”

After earning an associate degree in accounting from Nashua Community College, she decided to pursue her bachelor’s at UNH Manchester. Here, she’s seized every opportunity to advance her skills—and make lasting connections.

“I have not only gotten a degree, I have created bonds with amazing students who are my friends and instructors who are my council even after completing my education, and who want to continue to see me excel,” she says.

With a goal to become a Certified Public Accountant, real-world experience has been the heart of Alisbet’s college career. She worked full-time as a finance associate at Merchants Fleet before landing an internship at public accounting firm Baker Newman Noyes in early 2022. Her work ethic and passion didn’t go unnoticed—her internship transitioned into a full-time role on the tax staff within three months.

In addition to her current job, Alisbet is also a budding entrepreneur. For her senior project, she created a comprehensive business plan for a convenience store—a dream she is working toward bringing to life for her and her family to run.

"I hope to accomplish everything I have dreamed of,” she says. “I want to get my CPA license to open more opportunities for me, and I want to be able to help my family get the good future that most of the time Latinos are not getting.”

With her intellect, compassion and dedication, Alisbet will no doubt have a positive impact on any business and community she’s part of.
