Meet Your Fall 2025 Orientation Leaders: Maryam Idan ’26

Maryam Idan

When Maryam Idam ’26 first visited UNH Manchester, something clicked. She was looking for a campus that felt close to home—but also like home. A place where she could grow, get involved, and feel like she belonged.

“I chose UNH Manchester because I wanted a tight-knit, diverse campus where I could grow academically and personally,” she says. “The small class sizes, supportive professors, and the sense of community made it an easy choice.”

Now a marketing major, Maryam is one of this year’s Peer Assistant Leaders (PALs), supporting first-year students during orientation and throughout the fall semester. She knows firsthand how overwhelming the transition to college can feel—and how much a friendly face can help.

“As someone who had a tough first semester, I know how important it is to have someone in your corner,” she says. “Being a Peer Leader lets me give back and be that person for someone else.” — Maryam Idan ‘26

Q&A with Maryam

What advice would you give to new students?
Don’t be afraid to ask questions—about classes, clubs, or even where to find the best coffee. You don’t need to have it all figured out. Getting involved, even just a little, makes a huge difference in how connected you feel.

How has being involved on campus helped you grow?
It’s helped me build confidence, develop leadership skills and make meaningful friendships. Being a Peer Leader has pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me discover strengths I didn’t know I had.

Favorite class so far?
Marketing and leadership. In marketing, I love being creative and thinking about how to connect with people in meaningful ways. Leadership has shown me how to lead with empathy and stay true to my values.

Any professors who’ve made an impact?
Dr. Lisa Enright has had a huge impact on me. She challenges us in the best ways and makes sure we know we’re not alone. I’ve carried so much of what she’s taught me into my Peer Leader role and my life.

Just for Fun

Favorite Manchester restaurant?
The Gyro Spot—fresh, delicious, and always hits the spot.

Hampton Beach. It’s my go-to place to relax, walk by the ocean and catch the sunset with friends.

If you could travel anywhere…?
Greece! I’m drawn to the history, the culture, the scenery—it feels like the perfect mix of adventure and beauty.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Leading a team, doing work I love, living in a city I enjoy, and helping people grow—through marketing, mentoring or community-building.

Something surprising about you?
People are surprised when they find out I’m actually pretty shy at first! Being a Peer Leader has helped me open up and feel more confident connecting with others.
