Sometimes it takes just one experience to shift your perspective and redefine what’s next. Tiffany’s journey to UNH Manchester began with a personal moment that transformed how she viewed mental health and her own future.

“I wanted to study psychology after going to therapy for the first time when I was 17,” she says. “As many teens are, they’re very reluctant to go to therapy, but I realized after about a year that it can be a really life‑changing tool.”

That realization inspired Tiffany to pursue a degree in psychology, with a long‑term goal of supporting others through mental health care. She began her academic path at community college, completing her first two years before transferring to UNH Manchester.

“I chose to come to UNH Manchester after going to community college for the first two years,” she explains.

Finding the Right Fit

When Tiffany was ready to transfer, she knew exactly what she was looking for in a university experience.

“UNH Manchester had all of the opportunities that I was looking for,” she says. “I wanted small class sizes and a more tight‑knit community.”

That sense of community was clear to her even during the transfer process, which she describes as smooth and supportive. Her academic advisor played a key role in making sure the transition felt manageable.

“Transferring here was a really easy process for me,” Tiffany says.

“My academic advisor helped me select courses that would make the transition smoother. She knew that it could be really nerve‑wracking coming from a small school and going to university.”

Tiffany also emphasizes how available and flexible the support has been throughout her time at UNH Manchester.

“I’m always available to answer any questions that you have,” her advisor told her. “If you need to make an adjustment, let me know. You can come on in, and we can always talk about making a schedule change so that it fits your needs best.”

Learning in Small Classes, Building Real Connections

One of the defining features of Tiffany’s experience at UNH Manchester has been the close relationships she’s built with faculty—something made possible by small class sizes and an emphasis on mentorship.

“My favorite thing about the psychology program at UNH Manchester has got to be the professors,” she says.

“I’ve worked really closely with quite a few of my professors outside of the classroom in research opportunities.”

Those relationships opened doors to experiences Tiffany might not have found on her own and helped her refine her career goals.

Turning Learning Into Real‑World Experience

Through faculty guidance, Tiffany was connected to an internship that directly aligns with her interests and future plans.

“One professor helped me find an internship that is what I’m passionate about and hoping to do post‑graduation,” she says. “I’ll be working in the behavioral health unit at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center.”

That hands‑on experience is an important step toward Tiffany’s next goal. After graduating, she plans to move straight into graduate study.

“After graduation, I’ll be going directly into my master’s program for licensed mental health counseling,” she explains. “My long‑term goal is to be a licensed therapist for teens and kids.”

A Strong Foundation for What’s Next

For Tiffany, UNH Manchester has provided more than coursework; it’s given her confidence, direction, and preparation for the future she envisions.

“UNH Manchester has given me a really strong foundation for my future career in counseling,” she says.

From personalized advising and supportive faculty to small classes and meaningful real‑world experience, Tiffany’s journey highlights what’s possible at UNH Manchester, especially for students who are looking for an affordable, supportive, and connected path toward their goals.
