Dr. Patricia Halpin has been an integral part of UNH Manchester’s biology department since joining the faculty in 2000. As associate professor of biological science and biotechnology, Halpin fuses hands-on learning and technology to enhance her students’ classroom experience.
Halpin’s accomplishments inside and outside the classroom have earned her the American Physiological Society’s 2018 Dale J. Benos Professional Service Award and 2017 New Investigator Award, Campus Compact for New Hampshire's 2016 Good Steward Award and UNH Manchester’s 2006 Adjunct Excellence in Teaching Award. Beyond teaching at UNH Manchester, she performs STEM outreach to elementary school students in New Hampshire and in Melbourne, Australia. She also teaches laboratory activities as part of Greater Manchester's summer EXCELL program with middle and high school ESOL students.
What do you like best about your job?
Everything. UNH Manchester is a great place to work, and I enjoy the diversity of the student population.
What is your favorite UNH Manchester memory?
My favorite memory is taking students in my Global Science Explorations course to Belize in 2017 to study its diverse ecosystems.
What is your favorite New Hampshire destination?
Any ocean beach.
What are your hobbies?
Swimming, skiing and traveling.
What was your favorite vacation?
Spending two weeks in Australia, especially visiting the Outback and the Great Ocean Road—seeing penguins, koalas, emus, kangaroos and birds.
Which 3 famous people, living or dead, would you want at your fantasy dinner party?
Susan B. Anthony, Lucretia Mott and Wilma Rudolph.
As a child, what did you wish to become when you grew up?
A veterinarian.
