What to Ask and Expect at a College Open House

UNH Manchester's Spring Open House is Saturday, March 8

UNH Manchester building in the spring

The birds are chirping at increasingly early hours, the puddles are puddling in between sprouting perennial flowers and the sun doesn’t set right at 2 p.m.: it’s the spring semester! With the national May 1 deposit deadline approaching, now is a critical time to be doing research on prospective schools and taking time to consider where you’d like to continue your educational journey.

Spring open houses are excellent opportunities for in-depth exploration of what different colleges  can offer in terms of academics, campus life and student experiences. You can learn from faculty, speak to current students and meet prospective peers in your upcoming class.

An open house is a perfect place to get answers to all your questions. Here are a few things you may want to ask on your college visit:

  • What are some of the most popular classes offered on this campus?
  • What activities are offered for students, and how does the school interact with the local community?
  • How can I expect to be prepared for my future career if I attend this school?
  • Where can some recent alumni be found working?
  • What sort of opportunities are there for students to work on campus?
  • How long does it typically take to earn a degree?
  • What kinds of resources are available to support students?
  • How can I apply to this school? What specific decisions are offered?
  • How can I earn scholarship money towards tuition?
  • What safety measures are taken around campus?
  • Will I have the opportunity to use my major in a real-world context?

If you're considering UNH Manchester (and you should!), our spring open house is on Saturday, March 8. Here's what you can expect:
