<p><a title><strong>Semra Aytur, PhD, MPH is a Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management. Dr. Aytur is an epidemiologist whose research focuses on socio-ecological resilience and the relationships between the built, natural, and social environment in keeping people well. She is deeply committed to collaborative learning and research that supports innovative ways to improve health behavior and planetary health.</strong></a></p><a title>

<p><strong>She has published over 75 scientific manuscripts and three books on public health and environmental health.</strong></p>

<p><strong>Dr. Aytur earned a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina (UNC) Chapel Hill followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in cardiovascular epidemiology. She also holds a Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) from Boston University and a BA in human biology from Brown University.</strong></p>

<p><strong>In 2022, Dr. Aytur received the Climate and Health Leadership Award from the American Public Health Association (APHA) Center for Climate, Health, and Equity.</strong></p>

<p><strong>Dr. Aytur is deeply committed to collaborative learning and research that supports innovative ways to promote well-being and planetary health.</strong> <strong>She is a Co-PI on the $6 million ENACTS study, focusing on Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for community resilience.</strong></p>

<p><strong>ENACTS is a multi-institutional collaborative research project supported by the National Science Foundation. The research focuses on harnessing the power of NbS to address issues like flooding, heat island effects, lack of access to safe spaces to exercise/recreate, and food insecurity. Supported by local knowledge and integrated social/natural sciences, engineering, art and design, ENACTS is co-creating an ecosystem of partners to support more informed NbS decision-making and implementation.</strong></p>
